2 TV or not TV? that is the question I keep asking myself

I'm writing this  post on my iPad  because I'm travelling  for work and don't want to cart a laptop around, you know how heavy they are! So any typos noticed are because of this, ok?

Anyway, as business woman who has to travel you know what really irks me?

In hotels the pay (satellite) TV has about 15 million sport channels (OK, maybe not quite that many, but how many channels can you devote to sport?)  they even dedicate a couple of channels to kids viewing but, what about me?

I'm fine with free to air TV most of the time. But because I'm too tight-arse to have it at home I feel that when I stay in a hotel it's a bit extra special to have pay TV,  and would love to have life style channels, or cooking channels ..you get my drift?   But sadly  I am routinely disappointed with the offerings.

Do they (hotel operators) think that women don't travel, or watch TV?  I think a hotel brand that caters for women would do very well?

Some hotels are catering to their women business travellers

Richard Branson knows what women like! ...

What do you think?

Letter from Paris

I can't get any photos to load on via the iPad, so I am going to treat you with a letter from Paris...

Pictures will come at a letter date.

Dear Diary,

Today I arrived in Paris!  This is my about my 6th visit and still the excitement remains when I see the Tour Eiffel, symbol of Paris.

I'm here to attend an open day for

Le Cordon Bleu Paris cooking school  in preparation for my grown up gap year.

My sister is my support person, because you need someone to be your unbiased eyes and ears for things like this.

The weather is brilliant much warmer than I expected, I suppose I could blame climate change for that! :-)

We are staying at a lovely hotel on the Rive Gauche, which describes me to a tee,a bit left of centre!

We are going to do the hop on hop off bus, a comedy show and visit some sites, so,I'll close this letter now and will write another day.

Love gg

Pen Pals

I have a confession to make, I love to collect pens from hotels.
there it's out!

I don't think I am the only person who likes to collect hotel pens, but recently when I cleaned out my desk drawers I found a secret stash of over 30 pens from various hotel chains around the world, and this is not counting the half dozen or so that are resident in my various handbags.

The best bit is looking at the pens and remembering the trips that led to their becoming resident in my desk drawers, so I am going to share some of my best pen memories!....

My favourite are the pink ones pictured below that are from the Langham Hotel in Melbourne, my significant other  and I spent a romantic get a way there a while back. They are quite girly, so I expect the men staying at the Langham might not be interested in souveniering these!

the Novotel one was from a work trip where we stayed at the St Kilda Novotel in 2010, I expect to increase my stock of Novotel pens later this year when we do another work trip and stay there.

Oh La La!  I lurve the Sofitel hotels in both Sydney and Melbourne, and as you can see I have spent a fair bit of time accumulating these pens, although not as pretty and girly as the Langhams's they write beautifully.

Marriott is a good brand, we usually stay at them when we are travelling however this one is from a recent overnight stay for work just near my office.

How about something more exotic?..

This is from an work award trip where I got to go to Dubai. Although it is a pencil not a pen it was deemed worthy of my collection. Initially I was less than impressed with the idea of going to Dubai, but WOW it was a wonderful trip, an amazing place, desert, shopping malls with ski fields, and fabulous hotels. Oh that reminds me of a story about something I saw there that amused me, but I will save that for a later post.  A girl should not disclose everything on a first date, I need you to want to come back for more!  ;-)

But this one has got me beat, I may have never been to me, but I am pretty dam sure that I have not been to Kathmandu either but somehow I have managed to get this one into my collection!

Perhaps my pens are not having an exclusive relationship with me but are seeing other people and somehow I have ended up with this rather intriguing little number. Dare I suggest there may have been some pen swapping action going on?

Just to finish off I will show you a a little bit more of my collection...

so I've showed you mine, how about you show me yours??
:-)

Foot note..

You will recall in a previous episode that my significant other had a minor accident at the hotel in NYC and we had the whole CSI experience.

Well just to let you know that they ( that is the hotel, not CSI) rang today to see how he was ( code for "we hope you are not going to sue us!") I am hoping that it will translate to lots of extra reward points on my Marriott Account ( I hope they are reading this!)

We have walked all over east village today and found a gourmet supermarket just around the corner from us it is so big it has 2 Floors!  We have planned the Christmas day menu, but you will have to wait until tomorrow's post to see what we are going to cook.

BTW: I think it it highly amusing that a blog site spell check does not recognise the work blog! Go figure!

Merry Christmas!!!
